When customers line up at your counter, every second counts. Typing product names or scrolling through long lists slows you down, increases waiting time, and creates mistakes when the shop gets busy.

You can now scan barcodes directly with your phone camera in the Zuru App to ring up items in seconds.

Why checkout speed matters

A slow checkout frustrates shoppers and leads to walked sales. When staff feel rushed, they are also more likely to select the wrong product variation or skip recording a sale altogether.

  • Shorter lines keep customers happy and moving quickly.
  • Exact product matching prevents picking the wrong size, flavour, or price.
  • Instant recording protects your stock counts from discrepancies.
Recording every sale at the counter keeps your stock, profit, and cash balance accurate.

Manual entry versus barcode scanning

Most retail goods arrive with standard barcodes printed on the pack. Using your camera to read that code eliminates guesswork at checkout.

How to record a sale with scanning

Scanning an item into an active sale in the Zuru App takes only a few taps.

  1. Open the Store module in the Zuru App.
  2. Tap Sale to start a new transaction.
  3. Tap the barcode scanner icon to activate your phone camera.
  4. Point your camera at the barcode on the product packaging.
  5. Confirm the quantity and collect payment to finish the sale.

As soon as you complete the sale, the Zuru App reduces stock for that product automatically and logs the funds into your payment account.

Keep selling when your internet drops

Network connections can cut out unexpectedly in busy shopping districts. In Zuru Business Manager, recording sales and looking up products continue working seamlessly even when you are offline.

Your recorded transactions stay safely on your phone and synchronise automatically once internet connectivity returns.

Next steps for your store

Test scanning with two or three fast-moving products before your next rush hour so your staff get comfortable with the motion.

Open the Store module in the Zuru App and scan your first item on your next sale.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The Zuru App allows you to record sales, check inventory, and look up products while offline. All transactions synchronise once your phone reconnects to the internet.

Does scanning an item update my stock immediately?

Whenever you complete a sale in the Zuru App, stock levels for those products decrease automatically, and the money enters your chosen payment account.
